The anatomical study of the auricular cartilage is presented by means of dissections of 16 Korean cadavers.
The vertical diameter, the horizontal diameter, the horizontal distance from ti.e crossing point of two crura of antihelix to the helical rim, the horizontal distance from the most prominent point of the antihelix to the helical rim, the distance between the tragus to the antitragus, the vertical distance from the height of the helix to the mid-point of incisura intertragica, anti the ang13 formed by crossing of the crura of anthelix are measured in the cadaver cartilage.
And the branches from the superficial temporal artery, which supplies lateral part of the auricular cartilage are isolated from the cartilage and the locations of entering of the branches to the auricle are determined.
The following results are obtained;
1) The vertical diameter (mean value): ±52.7 3.9mm.
2) The horizontal diameter (mean value) :33.5 ±4.3mm.
3) The horizontal distance from the crossing point of two crura of antihelix to the helical rim (mean value) : 11. 5 ±2.7mm.
4) The horizontal distance from the most prominent point of the antihelix to the helical rim (mean value) : 6.4 ±1.7mm.
5) The distance between the tragus to the antitragus (mean value) 8.8 ±1.8mm.
6) The vertical distance from the height of the helix to the mid-point of incisura intertragica (mean value) : 39.7 ±3.4mm.
7) The angle formed by crossing of the crura of antihelix (mean value) : 55.8 ±10.21.
8) The branches of the superficial temporal artery are entering the auricular cartilage through crossing over the anterior border of the cartilage in 62.5% (20/32) or perforating into the cartilage in 37.5%(12/32). Of the perforating branches, the one through the concha is most frequent, 31.25%(10/32).
